My interest in admissions began as a prospective graduate student. I won a full-ride scholarship for one year of graduate school, but it had a catch: I was required to use it abroad. Where would I go and what would I study?

I imagined the possibilities and enrolled in a master’s program in Cultural Anthropology at a private Mexican university: La Universidad de las Américas-Pueba. It was an adventure! I followed the master’s with a teaching position in South Korea and worked at Willamette University’s study abroad office. Then for fourteen years, I pursued a career as an academic advisor at colleges and universities around the United States. I’ve advised undeclared college freshmen and sophomores and STEM students and served as an admissions application reader for selective colleges. My work has taken me to a flagship university, liberal arts colleges, a name-brand private university, and a community college.
